Complications of Xarelto

Xarelto can result in health complications including uncontrollable bleeding or even death. If patients are not monitored properly, an internal hemorrhage may occur near a major organ such as the:

  • Liver
  • Brain
  • Lungs

Blood pools can collect in the body and cause severe injury, which sometimes leads to emergency hospitalizations or fatalities. The only way to end the massive bleeding is flushing the drug out of the system. The use of vitamin K is only an option for those taking the older blood thinner Coumadin (warfarin), which may also result in severe bleeding.

Xarelto Lawsuits

Since health complications and deaths related to Xarelto were reported, Xarelto lawsuits have been filed against the drug manufacturer Bayer AG. The complaints allege that the company failed to warn the public about the risks. Some have requested removal of the drug from the market.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a Johnson & Johnson (J&J) subsidiary, has continued to advertise Xarelto in the United States as a safe drug. Would you like more information about filing a Xarelto lawsuit? Contact us for a free evaluation.

Significant Blood Loss and Possible Death

Bleeding that results from the use of Xarelto may lead to hypovolemic shock, which occurs when the body loses a significant amount of blood. Treatment involves an emergency infusion of fluids to flush the drug out of the body. The process may take an entire day or longer in the elderly who are particularly vulnerable to these complications, along with pregnant women.

One of the most alarming Xarelto side effects is extreme and uncontrollable hemorrhaging, which increases the risk of death. One explanation for fatalities related to this drug involves the absence of a safe method to stop any bleeding. Unlike warfarin, which has been available since 1956, a dose of vitamin K provides does not provide a fast antidote.
